OFC Rocks!

Let me start out by saying that I love Clay's fan club. I will always support it and have nothing but high hopes for it.

I love reading his blogs and sometimes leaving a comment. I appreciate that we get fairly quick news updates and an e-mail when there is an announcement or some kind of an alert. If he tours near me I will take advantage of the tour information, the pre-sales and although I never want to meet Clay, I'm happy for the ones that get the opportunity via the meet & greet lotteries.

There are links to his bandmates and singers, pictures of some of his adventures and of course The Store. There are links to his Bubel Aiken Foundation, Unicef, Beads for Life and other worthy causes that Clay supports. All good things.

I have a long wish list for what I'd like to see added to the Official Fanclub Website. Some of them are:

  • A Biography

  • Discography

  • Music Videos

  • Audio or video blogs from that cute guy we support

  • A cool web design, something more than the basic website template that Clique trotted out and applied while the webmaster chewed on his bologna sandwich and only took about 5 minutes of effort between bites.

  • Contests that include all fans worldwide, not just the continental USA.

Those are just a few of my hopes but if nothing about the website changed I would still pay my annual membership and want to be counted.

OFC Rocks but it has another meaning. I'm referring to the message board. The admin and some of the moderators are as dumb as a box of Rocks!

I know I have a target on my head because I dared to criticize the complete and utter stupidity of some of those mods, and yes, I also question their motives. They are responsible for a huge portion of the fanclub members to abandon the board, and in some cases, they left the online fandom altogether. It could have been prevented and it could still be fixed but not with some of those fools in control of that board.

If you are reading this, and are a member, then you know what I'm talking about. If you aren't a member but would like to support Clay and take advantage of the website and what it offers, sign up here, but don't bother to visit the OFC message board. Sadly, it is infested with haters, anti-fans and people who do not support Clay or respect him, including some of the mods.

There are hundreds of Clay Aiken boards and clubs that are run with more kindness and with a warmer welcome than you can imagine. There are groups through Yahoo, MSN, LiveJournal, FaceBook, myspace, and newsgroups. To find a message board or group, please visit Finding Clay Aiken or ask another fan. They'll be happy to help you find a place to meet and mingle with other fans online.

If you are familiar with the OFC and want to talk about it you can do it at Chexxxy's Place, you can also come over and get the lowdown from other members if you are not already familiar.

Some people asked me if I got banned or got a warning for speaking my mind a few weeks ago at the OFC message board. No, I didn't get a warning or banned. I think it would have been too obvious, then. I did get a warning again last night. What was my offense you ask? I'll show you. Some people were talking about the trolls on the board, some were making jokes about pests, fleas and gnats. My contribution was:

Take your pick. A gnat by any other name.....

Yup. That was it. Do you think I have a target on my back? Do you think it was personal? Do you think the mods that talked it over had Clay's best interests or the members' comfort and happiness in mind? Yea, I didn't think so either.

I had a signature line in all of my OFC Board posts for a few months. It read: "Dear Clay, Please delete your message board" I feel more strongly than ever about that request. It isn't personal, it never was, I just sincerely feel that some of the people in charge are doing more harm to Clay and his career than the board is worth. As some others have also noted, for a mere 30 dollars a year you can bash Clay and harass his fans to your heart's content. Other Stars have deleted their fanclub boards and for the exact same reasons.

There are a lot of great online communities but the Official Fanclub board isn't one of them, it's a cesspool of haters, liars and trolls mixed in with some of the best fans a great guy like Clay could ever ask for. Under these conditions conflict is inevitable and there have been many skirmishes and far too many casualties, unfortunately the good guys are losing.

A message board is like a small country and only as good as its leaders and we're dealing with Pol Pot when we'd rather have Nelson Mandela.

Sorry Clay :(

  1. Yup. That was it. Do you think I have a target on my back?

You Chexxxy? I thought that was just a fashion statement! Guess there's no truth to the rumor that Chexxxy's Place and the OFC are merging?

  2. I absolutely support everything you have said about the OFC mb. It's not a friendly place. I won't post there and neither do any of my Clay friends for the same reasons. I've read the exact same complaints on several boards--so these complaints and thoughts are not exclusive to Chexxxy or just her board, she has just become the scapegoat and that is sad.

I'm sorry I prefer to support Clay, show him respect, and make my comments constructive--I'm sorry that I can't do that on his own fan board. Time for either some real big housekeeping over there or to delete the whole board. The mods love their power plays and think they are above the rest. I have news for them, their little power plays have cost them the respect of a lot of fans who will not post there because of them and their lack of control. When will they wise up? Oh, they are too busy protecting the pot stirrers.

  3. Birdie93:44 AM

It's very frustrating over there, to say the least. I wrote several blogs about the OFC between July 16, 2006 and July 30, 2006. It's sad to think that not a thing has changed in a year, but fairly easy to figure out things probably are not going to change if they haven't changed in all this time.

  4. Anonymous3:47 AM

How true and very unfortunate. The mods really either have no clue or they have their own agendas. Either way, it is NOT in Clay's best interest. The stuff they allow versus the ones they smack down is totally crazy. I fan who only wants to support him and enjoy him is accused while those who post nasty comments, lies, innuendos, and meanness are welcomed and protected. What a screwed up site and how unfair to Clay and those who really want the best for him.

  5. Anonymous3:52 AM

Wow, I think this is all so sad. Why can't the fans enjoy Clay? Why can't the haters move on?

  6. Anonymous3:55 AM

I can't believe you got a warning for that statement Chexxxy. It certainly seems SOME of those in charge are looking for someone to blame, so they pick you. God forbid they pick up the mirror and see the real problem!!

When the OFC first opened up, there were a group of 23 of us that all signed up the first day. Now there are only 5 of us left that read the message board. Out of the 18 that no longer support it, 11 of those people are even from Clay's hometown of Raleigh. THAT is a shame.

Everyone is still a fan and support him 100%, but are totally disgusted how SOME mods don't give a shit about him no matter how much they 'pretend' they do. It's all status with them. But do they see it? Nope. They do no wrong in their eyes. The problem with their eyes is that they have tunnel vision and only see what they want to see and then laugh at everyone else behind their backs.

Oh well, it doesn't look like it's going to change, so people will continue to support Clay as always, but certainly will "use their voice" when it comes to those that mock, criticize and laugh at him and those that want only the best for him.

Bag of Rocks is perfect Chexxxy.

  7. Seachal4:23 AM

Chexxxy I am sorry about the target on your back. It is not deserved. Some of the mods at the OFC message board do not want to accept that they are in large part responsible for the conflict that occurs there so they try to pass the buck. Only one thing is needed, really, to turn that board around. Respect for Clay. Sadly if all the mods are not willing to give him that, he will not recieve it in on his own message board, and neither will the fans that love him.

  8. Anonymous4:36 AM

When you have mods that are friends in real life with the haters and that say they believe the tabloid stories about Clay's stalker you know you have a problem.

No wonder they protect the haters. They ARE the HATERs. That is why Chexxxy is a target. She represents the real fans and she won't be shut up.

You go girl! Don't let them get to you. They are the wolves in sheep clothing that need to be taken out.

  9. Anonymous6:50 AM

There are many fans that know, only too well, that some of the moderators of Clay's Official Fan Club are supporters of those that call Clay names on their own boards. We are told not to bring our opinions to OFC, but yet those that berate and call him a liar do bring their board's views into their posts. They have the support of some of the mods. We cannot question the poster, or the post, because we are then called "disrepectful". We are not "defending" Clay, but only defining "respect". I strongly agree with Chexxxy.

You're too funny. Thanks for the laugh. :)

  11. Anonymous7:20 AM

Chexxxy, I have been at your "Place" since you opened the doors, and you are right about the OFC message board. I did as Clay said and started ignoring the agenda-driven pests on the board, and my list is not that long. However, in any thread that deliberately shows disrespect for Clay, more than half of the posts come up with the message that I've placed this person on ignore. How come the same small group of people are always in the threads that show such disrespect for Clay? Because they are the ones who start those threads, rush in to defend each other, and have some of the mods in their pocket. They even laugh about it on their home boards. But of course, pointing that out gets you banned from the OFC, by those same mods.

I read there and post occasionally, watch what I say, and have still had my posts edited just for saying the absolute truth. Innuendo is OK, agenda driven posts are OK, truth is frowned upon.

  12. Sally7:31 AM

I am another one that is fed up with those Mods. I think some of them hate Clay and hate us just as much. How can we get rid of them? Say the word and I'll follow.

  13. Anonymous7:43 AM

I had experience with those mods over at the RCA board. Egotistical power-trippers does not even begin to define them. When I saw that they were the new moderators of the fanclub board we'd all waited so long for I was sick and furious, because I knew what would ultimately happen to the fanclub board.... and I was right. I let OFC administration know from day one that I would not be participating in the messageboard side of site due to those "mods" (and I use the term loosely) being there. Now they've taken over chat, too, so another place I won't go. At least we still have the blogs and they can't infect that section of the site with power trips, selective censorship, bullying, and nastiness.

  14. Anonymous9:40 AM

I have lost respect for the mods at the OFC over the issue of providing links to tabloid articles and allowing sightings from any source at all as long as the poster feels it is a credible source...even when common sense would show otherwise.

Learning that they are friends with those who do not believe in Clay's integrity and who show blatant disrespect for him has sealed my feelings towards the mods.

It is ridiculous that you got a warning for such an innocuous statement but haters are routinely allowed to make their not so covert insinuations.

In Clay's blog he let it be known that he does not have control of the fanclub mb....a sad, sad situation. I am hoping that that will change in the near future.

  15. Anonymous10:13 AM

We all know that those who like to stir the pot will do it anywhere they can. The Fandom is infected and so far Clay(and many other stars)have not found a way to deal with it. The internet is still the wild wild west. We will have to endure and just hope that one day the gnats just grow the hell up.

  16. Anonymous11:43 AM

I get a laugh out of CG claiming that she gets her orders directly from Clay. Clay doesn't even know who she is and does not discuss anything with her. She's just on another power trip.

For the most part, the mods there (with the exception of one or two) are either clueless or vindictive. Their interpretation of the TOU's is subject to change on a whim. On many occasions, their actions or lack of same give the impression that it is okay to bash the host on his own fan board.

I will continue to support Clay in his future career endeavors, but unless something is done about the unprofessionalism and unpredictibility of the mods, I will not be renewing my membership.

  17. orionne11:46 AM

As far as I'm concerned, those who want to ignore Clay's own words in order to push their selfish agenda are stinking, rotting, evil excuses for human beings. That ESPECIALLY includes the mods who are bound and determined to shut the mouths of those who oppose their filthy agenda. Evil HATES the light.

Chexxxy, be proud that you don't belong to that subspecies of rot. You actually have some VALUE as a human being.

  18. Anonymous12:29 PM

I guess I am the only one who read Clay's blog about ignoring the crap.

Didn't he say something about not having to defend him, too?

When will you learn that engaging with the haters is exactly what they want you to do? Don't you see how they make you look like the attackers? They come in with their mild-mannered posts and make the rest of you look like you are the ones beating up on the posters over there.

YOU are being held up as the enemy now. Don't you get that? YOU are the enemy.

I wish everyone would learn to mind their own business and let Clay run his own life and career.

  19. Anonymous2:38 PM

    anonymous 12:29 -

I understand your point and your post. I read Clay's blog, have heard his words since 2003 and I do follow his lead. But that doesn't mean that we all can't be angry that the Mods on the OFC don't listen.

Ignoring is what should be done, and for the most part it is, but if the Mods wouldn't allow the crap to be posted that is negative about Clay to begin with, or at least jump in and say there is no place for this garbage on his FANboard, then it wouldn't get far enough for any arguing and/or defending to even start.

Mods on any artists board should respect and support the person they are representing in their position, not support and give free reign to those that they know are causing problems. That is the issue. The crap-stirrers are easy to spot and easier to ignore. But when the mods change rules as they see fit or to benefit their "friends" (whether a fan or known anti-fan), that is a problem.

  20. Anonymous3:00 PM

I get that this is about the mods. I just don't think it's doing any good. They aren't resigning nor are they being fired. Why engage with them?

I have the same frustration with the mods and have been warned and told I would be banned. I have just come to the point where it's just as easy to scroll past their posts and not engage when they are obviously showing their true colors.

It's not worth it to see Clay being made the brunt of the joke on these remote blogs. That is my only concern.

I am tired of him being laughed at because of people who refuse to listen or can't turn a deaf ear to the idiots out there who prey on his fans.

    It's redundant.

  21. Birdie94:01 PM

    "It's redundant."

That it is, and I think you are right to notice that doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is futile.

I think we need to brainstorm and come up with some other ways to handle it.

Maybe we could start our own blog and just go there to publically air our unhappiness and put a link in all our signatures at the OFC. According to the TOU, they don't do anything about signatures. One member of OC had that nasty board linked on the OFC for a year and they did nothing. All an underage member had to do was click that link to read porn. To me, that's just awful. That was my main complaint(I don't think she is a member now, but if she comes back, I'm sure she will stick it back in there.)...followed by, as other have stated, the fact that the haters and sickos get protection on the board.

I'm not sure the person who posted that last blurb that started the trouble knew what she was doing, but if a mod had stepped in and said, "Hey, rumors are not allowed, so we are closing this thread," then there would have been no problem. To my way of thinking, the very fact that the bartender made negative remarks made it suspect in the first place because of all the viral marketing aimed at Clay.

Rumors have been the root of both the last two "locked" threads. Maybe the "rumor" rule needs to be clarified. If enough of us actually wrote to the administration (I know this is not true, but I'm going to say it anyway to at least try to show good faith) they might do that.

There are other options, and perhaps someone else would like to add them.

  22. We all know by now that complaining to the mods is a waste of time. Same with submitting a support ticket to the admin. Emails are too easy and easily deleted, a petition might work but is hard to coordinate with people so spread out around the world.

I think writing letters to the right person at RCA might get their attention. Some of those same mods got the job by the members asking RCA for moderators at the first RCA board. We can get rid of them the same way.

Chexxxy, can we have a thread at your board to talk it over?

  23. Sure thing, PWE. Come on over and let's see what shakes out.

  24. Anonymous6:33 AM

    Hi Chexxxy,
Iam a fan of Clay's but I don't belong to OFC. After all I've heard I wouldn't join in a million years. You want to believe there are haters over there. How else do Clay's blogs get to the well known anti-Clay venom spewing blogs full text BEFORE most members have even read them. With members like some of them who needs enemies.
I've followed your blog and I think you do a great job. They're just jealous and afraid you'll expose them.
    Keep your chin up.

    great post, thanks for sharing

  27. Anonymous5:27 AM

Thank you for having written this. I quite agree with your opinion.
